Adam continues working towards his Commercial Pilot’s Licence at Multiflight

Multiflight Flight Training Centre student Adam Rahnavard is now working towards his Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL), having completed his Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) with us last year.  You can read his latest update on his flight training progress at Multiflight flying school in Leeds here.

Adam writes: “It has been a few months since I last updated my Multiflight flight training blog and in that time quite a bit has happened: some of it in the air but the key developments have been around the Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL) examinations that I have been studying to complete. In my last blog I mentioned that I was studying with Multiflight Flight Training Centre’s distance learning partner Bristol Ground School: this is a required part of the eventual grant of an ATPL. They divide the 14 exams into two distance learning modules which were backed up by 2 weeks intensive brush-up in a classroom followed by the corresponding exams at Gatwick.

“I am pleased to announce that following on from my first Module exam sitting a few weeks ago I have Module 1 and now 7 of the exams under my belt with a pass average of 92%! I am really pleased with this leaving me only Module 2 to study and the remaining 7 exams (14 in total Mod 1 + Mod 2) to take and pass to complete the course. Fitting home study around work and family commitments was quite a challenge in addition to the few weeks I was away from home to complete the brush-up course and exams but it was all worth it in the end. I wanted to do well but to me it was important to get good results to prove to myself I have what it takes to continue and finish the study and exam programme. To be at the halfway point is a great feeling with the exams. I am hoping to order Module 2 from Bristol Ground School in the Autumn with a view to taking the final exams in February/March next year.

“I still have a way to go but have experienced the Bristol programme for the first time and have to say it was excellent. If you do the work and take in as much as you can from the tutors you should have a good chance of passing the exams. They have a formula that works very well and I am already looking forward to returning for Module 2. I can see why so many pilots have successfully progressed through their school. With the experience of Module 1 I now feel even better prepared as I know what to fully expect from the Bristol course in Mod 2 and also what it is like to sit exams at Gatwick. I have never been a fan of examinations (who is?) but this will reduce the nerves next time around for Module 2.

“In terms of flying it has been a little stop-start with the very changeable weather conditions since the beginning of the year but have been able to catch up recently with more flyable days. I have continued to fly the PA28 which is a great aircraft and I feel comfortable in it. My flying hours have increased to a total of 105 under my belt so I am still hitting the run rate needed to ensure I have the 150 hours required to start the Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL). An event I am very much looking forward to, which is crucial to this hour build, is the ‘Jersey Fly Out’ organised by Multiflight in June. As part of the hour build a 300nm trip with two ‘land aways’ needs to have been undertaken and this will meet this requirement. Other than that this will be a great challenge of my abilities as a pilot, I will be flying to the south coast for the very first time and the added wow factor of crossing the English Channel and flying over the Normandy beaches in France on route to Jersey. I am sure this will be the trip of a lifetime, I just hope the weather is right for us so the trip can go ahead.

“I will update you all further about my progress at Multiflight Flight Training Centre at Leeds Bradford International Airport, Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK, later in the year……”
